Ani Zamba Chozom was born in London in 1948 and is one of the first Western women to have taken full monastic vows in multiple Buddhist traditions. She began as a nun in Tibetan Vajrayana, and was later ordained within the Korean Seon and Chinese Chan lineages. Her background in Buddhist philosophy and practice is extensive and rich, covering a period of 44 years.

Ani has had the extraordinary opportunity to study and practice under some of the most highly realized Vajrayana, Mahayana, and Theravadin masters of the last century. She has devoted many years to solitary retreat in several countries in Asia, where she lived for 30 years. For the past 14 years, Ani Zamba has lived in Brazil, teaching, practicing, and establishing Dharma centers throughout the region.

“The Cost of Illusion” teachings are a step-by-step psychological journey of discovery . . . revealing how the illusion of our ego is constructed and maintained so that what is actually a very intelligent and sophisticated fantasy appears to be our reality. With a refreshing scientific, down-to-earth, and direct style, Ani helps us to unravel the “mind” and the “nature of consciousness,” illuminating how to work with daily life situations as a basis for our path to Liberation.

Session One of these teachings was hosted by the Centre of Buddhist Studies at The University of Hong Kong on 2 December 2014.
