The third of the three kinds of perception 識, i. e. real (or abstract), manifest, and reasoned (or inferred); it includes all the eight 識 except the ālaya-vijñāna.

分別事識===（術語）楞伽經所說三識之一。八識中除阿賴耶識，為其他末那等七識之總稱，以對種種之境，而起虛妄分別故也，對真識則云事識。楞伽經一曰：「略說有三種識，廣說有八相，何等為三？謂真識、現識、分別事識。」起信論曰：「依諸凡夫取著轉深，計我我所，種種妄執，隨事攀緣，分別六塵，名為意識，亦名離識，又復說名分別事識。」同義記中末曰：「又能分別去來內外種種事相故，彼說為分別事識也。」又第八識十八名之第十五名也。以第八阿賴耶識為生一切分別事識之根本故也。唯識了義燈四本曰：「十五名識，無相論云：分別事識也。」
