Definition[1]
:
anupādiśeṣa-nirvāṇa (Sanskrit, nirvāṇa without remainder; Pāli, anupādisesa-nibbāna). Final nirvāṇa, the entry into nirvāṇa that occurs at death, at which point according to Buddhist teachings rebirth ceases and personal existence comes to an end. Also known as parinirvāṇa or skandha-parinirvāṇa, meaning the cessation of the five skandhas or aggregates. Final nirvāṇa is to be distinguished from ‘nirvāṇa in this life’ (sopādhiśeṣa-nirvāṇa), in which the individual continues to live as a normal human being as before.
