Apabhraṃśa, An early medieval Indian language of colloquial origins used widely in northern India after the 5th century ce by some Buddhists, and which later contributed to the development of such languages as Bengali and Oriya. A number of late Buddhist tantras and tantric songs (doha) have survived in this language.
