āvenika Sutta

There are five special (āvenika) woes which a woman has to undergo as distinct from a man:

  • at a tender age she goes to her husband's family,

  • leaving her relations;

  • she is subject to menses;

  • to pregnancy;

  • to labour at child-birth;

  • and she has to wait upon a man. S.iv.239.
