Bhaṭa [cp. Epic & Class. Sk. bhaṭa, fr, dial. bhaṭ to hire; originally the same as bhṛtya fr. bhṛta & bhṛti of bhṛ Dhtp 94, Dhtm 114. -- bhaṭa=bhatyaŋ i. e. bhṛtyaŋ] servant, hireling, soldier Miln 240; VvA 305 (bhattavetana˚). As to suggestion of bhaṭa occurring in phrase yathā -- bhaṭaŋ (Kern. Toev. s. v. yathābhaṭaŋ) see discussion under yathā bhataŋ.
