cakravāla (Sanskrit; Pāli, cakkavāḷa). Term found in late canonical (e.g. the Buddhavaṃsa and Apadāna) and post-canonical Indian Buddhist cosmology denoting a ‘world system’ or inhabited universe. It was thought that the cosmos contained a vast number of these identically structured systems.
