Catuḥstava. Four hymns composed by Nāgārjuna (although his authorship is disputed) entitled Lokātīta-stava (Transcending the World), Niraupamya-stava (Peerless), Acintya-stava (Inconceivable), and Paramārtha-stava (Ultimate Truth). The hymns praise various aspects of the Buddha's enlightenment (bodhi) and majesty and were widely popular in India in Mahāyāna circles. Sanskrit versions survive of the set and more than four staves (hymns) are known; it is uncertain which are the original four, if any.
