Chinese Buddhist Association. The official government organization founded by the People's Republic of China in 1953 for the regulation of Buddhism in that country. The Association oversees the activities of both lay and monastic groups, and promotes a revisionist interpretation of Buddhist teachings in line with the thoughts of Marx and Lenin. It calls upon Buddhists to be loyal to the Communist Party and to see their religious practice as contributing towards the class struggle and the overthrow of capitalism.
