Csoma Körösi  (1784-1842)

Hungarian scholar who travelled to western Tibet and parts of central Asia in a quest to find the origins of the Hungarian people. During a two-year stay in Ladakh, he was the first Western scholar to study Tibetan and produced a translation of the Mahāvyutpatti, a Tibetan grammar, a survey of the Tibetan canon, and articles on Tibetan culture.
