Dakṣiṇā. The honorarium given to Hindu priests who perform a sacrifice on behalf of the donor. The priests depended on such gifts for their maintenance. The original form of the gift was a cow and the concept of such giving is identified with a goddess Dakṣiṇā, who is regarded as the Cosmic Cow r Nature.
