Deer Park

The Deer Park (Pāli, migadāya) at Isipatana near present-day Vārāṇasī was the site of the first sermon. After gaining enlightenment (bodhi) the Buddha came here and preached this sermon to five of his former ascetic companions, later known as the pañcavaggiyā monks.
