dhyāni-Buddhas (Sanskrit). ‘Meditation Buddhas’, in the sense of Buddhas seen in meditation or used as a subject of meditation practice. It is a generally obsolete term invented and formerly used by Western scholars to denote the Five Jinas or tathāgatas.
