難行道
Also called Path of the Sages, Self-power Path.
According to Pure Land teaching, all conventional Buddhist ways of practice and cultivation, such as Chan, Theravāda, Vinaya School, etc, which emphasize self-power and self-reliance. This is contrasted to the Easy Path of Practice ( 易行道 ), i.e. the Pure Land method, which relies on both self-power ( 自力 )and other-power ( 他力 ), i.e. power of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
