Dīpāvalī. The traditional name of a Hindu festival during which all the household lamps are lighted in celebration of the reappearance of the sun after the rainy season. The festival is nowadays called Divālī. It is held in the day of the new moon in the month of āsvina (mid-October through mid-November).
