:
Dogma. From the Greek dokeō, "I think" or "I have an opinion," hence dokēma, "opinion". The term was used by classical writers in antiquity to designate the distinctive views of the various philosophical schools. As developed by the Christian Fathers it came to designate the formulation of any view taken to be revealed in Scripture and taught by the Church.
