Fields of blessings refer figuratively to the meritorious deeds one does before the Triple Jewel (the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Saṅgha). Also, the robes worn by members of the Saṅgha are sewn in patches, which resemble fields. By revering and making offerings to the Saṅgha, one "plants" seeds of merit and virtue in a place where they will certainly "ripen" and bear blessed fruit.
