摩訶波闍波提

She was the sister of Mahāmaya, the mother of Śākyamuni. They both married King Suddhodāna. Maya died seven days after the birth of Śākyamuni. Mahāpajapati then became the step/foster mother of Śākyamuni, and treated Śākyamuni so kind as her son, Nanda. Nanda was one of the Ten Great Disciples of Śākyamuni. After the death of King Suddhodāna, Mahāpajapati was ordained to be the first woman admitted in Buddhist order.
