mahāpuruṣa
(Sanskrit, great man; Pāli, mahāpurisa). In traditional Indian and Buddhist lore, a great man, hero, or superman. One born to greatness and destined to be either a Universal Ruler (cakravartin) or a Buddha. One such destined by fate bears the 32 major marks (dvātriṃśadvara-lakṣaṇa) and 80 minor marks (anuvyañjana) on his body, by which people may recognize and prophesy his greatness.
