Mala (nt.) [Vedic mala, see etym. under malina. The Dhtm (395) only knows of one root mal or mall in meaning "dhāraṇa" supporting, thus thinking of māḷaka] anything impure, stain (lit. & fig.), dirt. In the Canon mostly fig. of impurities.
