Pañcāla

One of the major states of ancient India lying to the east of its rival Kuru, corresponding to territory the north and west of present-day Delhi. The country was often split into north and south Pañcāla, with hegemony over the northern part being in dispute with the Kurus. The Buddha is not known to have visited this region during his lifetime although Buddhism probably spread there during the reign of Aśoka.
