Patijīvan ( -- ˚) in phrase jīva -- paṭijīvaŋ at J ii.15 is to be taken as a sort of redupl. cpd. of jīva, the imper. of jīvati "live," as greeting. We might translate "the greeting with ʻ jīva ʼ and reciprocating it."
