Tārānātha (1575-1634)

The honorary title of Künga Nyingpo (Tibetan, Kun-dga' snying-po), a leading teacher of the Jonangpa school. He is best known for his important Doctrinal History of India (Tibetan, rgya-gar chos-'byung) as well as the many treatises he composed expounding Jonangpa tenets. Apart from his teaching and literary activities in Tibet, he also spent 20 years propagating Buddhism among the Khalkha Mongols (see Mongolia).
