Definition[1]

telakhon (Karen, fruit of wisdom). Religious movement among the Karen people of Burma inspired by Buddhist millennialism and aiming at political liberation, initially from the British and now from the present military regime. The movement was founded in the mid-19th century by Con Yu, and its millennial expectations revolve around a golden book that bestows knowledge and power. In the 1960s American missionaries shipped large numbers of Bibles to the Karen but the Bible was rejected as not being the authentic golden book of which the legends speak.
