三身

According to Mahāyāna Buddhism, the Buddha has three bodies :

  1. Dharmakāya - Dharma Body or Truth Body. It is the everlasting and identical amongst all Buddhas. Its ultimate reality represents their awakened personality.
  2. Saṃbhogakāya - Retributon body or Enjoyment Body. It resides in heavenly realms and above. It is accessible to Bodhisattva and the sages only.
  3. Nirmaṇakāya - Emanation Body or Transformation Body. It is the physical manifestation of a Buddha for teaching the ordinary beings.
