Yeshé Tshogyel (757-817)

(Tibetan, Ye-shes mtsho-rgyal). The renowned Tibetan consort of Padmasambhava, she was born into a noble family and later resided at the court of Trisong Detsen. She met the Indian scholar- monk Śāntarakṣita and the yogin Padmasambhava while there. Her actual contact with Padmasambhava seems to have been relatively brief but during that time he transmitted to her many important teachings especially those connected to the tutelary deity (yi-dam) Vajrakīla. As well as writing a biography of Padmasambhava, she is said to have recorded many of his teachings which were concealed as terma for later discovery. After Padmasambhava left Tibet, she propagated the Dharma in the eastern regions of the country.
