「句」為住處之意，「一切智句」即指佛之住處。大日經卷六（大一八‧四二中）：「於彼常勤修，求一切智句。」蓋真言之性，皆離世間分別之見，若了知此而如實修真言之行，即是一切智句。大日經義釋卷十四（卍續三六‧四七九上）：「句是住處義，一切智之住處即是佛住也；當知菩提性等於虛空，虛空等於菩提性。菩提性者，即是阿字門，一切智句也。」
