The three signs or proofs of a Hīnayāna sutra— non-permanence, non-personality, nirvāna; without these the sūtra is spurious and the doctrine is of Māra; the proof of a Mahāyāna sūtra is the doctrine of 一實 ultimate reality, q. v. Also 三法印.
