初果即須陀洹也。謂斷三結之惑，而得此果。超四惡趣，於人天中七返受生，方斷諸苦，入於涅槃，過八萬劫，當得無上正等菩提，是名初果回心。（梵語須陀洹，華言預流，謂出凡流而預聖流也。三結者，身見、戒取、疑，即三界見惑也。四惡趣者，脩羅趣、餓鬼趣、畜生趣、地獄趣也。七返者，天上人間，共七番也。梵語涅槃，華言滅度。）
