The four kinds of prediction of Buddhahood. In the Shoulengyan sanmei jing 首楞嚴三昧經 these are: (1) The prediction for those who have not yet arisen the mind of enlightenment. (2) The prediction for those who are at the point of arising the mind of enlightenment. (3) The secret prediction. (4) The prediction for those who have attained the level of unarisen tolerance.

四種授記===﹝出菩提資糧論﹞##聖言說與曰授,果與心期曰記。

〔一、未發菩提心授記〕,謂諸佛世尊,觀諸眾生根機利鈍。其有具增上信者,佛則令其發菩提心,而為授記當得作佛,是名未發菩提心授記。(梵語菩提,華言道。增上,猶增勝也。)

〔二、共發菩提心授記〕,謂諸菩薩善根成熟,得增上行;但欲度脫一切眾生,同諸眾生共發菩提心,誓願同成正覺,蒙佛授記,是名共發菩提心授記。

〔三、隱覆授記〕,謂此人修行精進,固當授記;恐其自聞授記,則志滿足,不復更發精進之心。如不授記,復恐眾人生疑,而謂此人修行精進,不蒙授記。故佛以威神之力,密為授記當得作佛。使他人聞,不使其自聞,是為隱覆授記。

〔四、現前授記〕,謂諸菩薩成熟出世善根,得不動地,即時蒙佛授記,是為現前授記。
