The four Mahāyānas, i. e. the four great schools: (1) 華嚴 Huayan or Avatamsaka; (2) 天台 Tiantai; (3) 眞言 Zhenyan, Shingon, or esoteric; (4) 禪 Chan, Zen, or intuitive school. Another group is the 法相, 三論, 天台, and 華嚴.
