The four grave crimes (Skt. pārājika; Pali pārājika) of sexual intercourse, stealing, killing a human being and lying about one's spiritual attainments; transcribed as 波羅夷. The commission of one of these offenses by a member of the clergy can result in expulsion from the sangha.
