指大菩薩所行利益眾生之殺生。此等殺生無染濁之過失,反生無量福德,速得無上菩提。如菩薩了知某人必作無間等業,唯有殺之方能避免此惡,或知此人於捨命後必生善道;以此所為之殺生,即謂方便殺生。〔華嚴經探玄記卷十九〕

(術語)謂大菩薩方便之殺生,生無量之福德也。探玄記十九曰:「梁論戒學中釋甚深云:菩薩由如是方便勝智行殺生等十事無染濁過失,生無量福德速得無上菩薩,要大菩薩堪行此事。此有二種:一實行,二變化。實行者,了知前人必應定作無間等業,無別方便令離此惡,唯可斷命使不作惡。又知此人若捨命已必生善道。又菩薩自念,我行殺業,必墮地獄為彼受苦。彼雖現受少輕苦惱,來世必受樂果報也。」
