(一)謂一切法皆由因緣而生。南本大般涅槃經卷十四（大一二‧六九四下）：「法緣者，不見父母妻子親屬，見一切法皆從緣生，是名法緣。」又深見諸法因緣生之理，而起平等之慈悲，稱為法緣慈悲。〔大智度論卷二十〕（參閱「慈悲」5805）
　(二)謂與佛法為緣。如歸依佛法僧三寶，即是與佛法為緣。
　(三)指屬於同法系之兄弟子孫。意同於法眷。（參閱「法眷」3388）
