(一)坐禪堂之略稱。亦作僧堂。（參閱「僧堂」5739）
(二)係為與僧堂有所區別而稱禪堂。僧堂為行坐禪、睡眠，飲食等之道場，禪堂則專指坐禪之道場。
(三)無僧堂之寺院，於法堂坐禪，維那以下眾僧之居處，稱為禪堂。
