又作至那。據翻譯名義集卷三脂那條載，「脂那」一詞，凡有二義：(一)指「支那」，意即文物國，乃讚美此方為衣冠文物之地。如大唐西域記卷五所說之「摩訶至那」，即指「大唐」。（大五一‧八九四下）：「大唐國在何方？（中略）當此東北數萬餘里，印度所謂摩訶至那國是也。」(二)指「指難」，為邊鄙之意，即貶挫其地非中國之語。
