又作[艹/(月*曷)]。(一)指戒臘、法臘。為比丘受具足戒後之年數。比丘出家之年歲與世俗不同，係以受戒以後之夏安居數為年次，故有戒臘、夏臘、法臘、年臘等稱。禪苑清規卷十百丈規繩頌（卍續一一一‧四六五下）：「凡具道眼，有可遵之德者，號曰長老；如西域道高臘長，呼須菩提等之謂。」〔玄應音義卷十四〕（參閱「法臘」3431）
(二)指臘月。歲終之義。臘，為我國古代祭祀之名。我國夙以農曆十二月為臘祭之月，故十二月習稱臘月。圓通大應國師語錄卷上（大八○‧一○六中）：「逗到臘月三十日，也只是恁麽；臘盡春回，依舊如前，且道是什麽田地？」
