邪命 [py] xiémìng [wg] hsieh-ming [ko] 사명 samyŏng [ja] ジャミョウ jamyō ||| (1) Wrong (evil) livelihood. To make a living in an immoral way (mithyā-ājiva). (2) A situation of a monk or nun making a living by divination, astrology, using his/her keen wit, flattery, magic, etc.

Heterodox or improper ways of obtaining a living on the part of a monk, e. g. by doing work with his hands, by astrology, his wits, flattery, magic, etc. Begging, or seeking alms, was the orthodox way of obtaining a living.
