Nation Celebrates Buddha's Birthday

Some 20-thousand buddhist temples across the country held ceremonies and events on Friday to celebrate Buddha’s Birthday.
The Most Venerable Beopjeon, the Supreme Patriarch of the Korean Order of Jogye Buddhism, the head of the Jogye Order Venerable Jaseung and some ten-thousand followers attended a ceremony at the Jogye Temple in Seoul.
In the ceremony, Venerable Jaseung said that the coming of Buddha reminds the people to live Buddha's teachings and to pursue life of harmony and mercy.
The Most Venerble Beopjeon called on the people to transcend all desires and shackles and to reborn as a Buddha.
President Lee Myung-bak delivered a conglatulatory message in the ceremony, read by Culture Minister Yu In-chon.
The ceremony was also attended by religious leaders of Christian and Won Buddhist groups, foreign envoys and top officials of rival parties and candidates for Seoul mayor.
