His Holiness Dudjom Yangsi Sangye Pema Shepa Rinpoche, a highly esteemed lama in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, is visiting Moscow and the Republic of Kalmykia from 12 August–1 September, his first ever visit to the Russian Federation.

During his trip, Dudjom Yangsi Rinpoche will bestow empowerments (Tib: wang), oral transmissions (Tib: lung), and give teachings, mainly according to the Dudjom Tersar lineage.* Additionally, he will give lung of two Dzogchen texts of the omniscient Longchenpa (1308–64). Rinpoche’s program was requested by the Russian community of Dechen Daki Ling and the association of Buddhists communities Arya Sangha.

The first part of Dudjom Yangsi Rinpoche’s program took place in Moscow from 14–16 August. Rinpoche gave a lecture at the Central House of Writers titled “Advice from the Bottom of My Heart,” with general Dharma instructions for daily practice, and bestowed two empowerments from the Dudjom Tersar lineage at the Open World Center. The first empowerment was Tsokye Tuktik, “The Heart Essence of the Lake-Born Vajra”—a long-life practice with Guru Rinpoche in the form of Guru Tsokye Dorje in union with his consort Mandarava, followed by a ritual for attracting wealth related to Orgyen Norllha–Guru Rinpoche in the form of wealth deity Dzambala. The second empowerment was Black Hayagriva, which aims to dispel obstacles.

The second part of Rinpoche’s program, currently underway, is taking place in the Kunsangar North retreat center of the Dzogchen community, some 70 kilometers from Moscow, from 17–25 August. It includes the Sur ritual of the Longchen Nyingtik cycle, Khandro Tuktik empowerment, and The Dakini Heart Essence—a practice from Dudjom Tersar related to dakini Yeshe Tsogyal in her outer, inner, secret, and innermost secret forms. The empowerment wil be followed by a three-day Khandro Tuktik retreat, during which there will be a tsog ritual (feast offering) and torma offering to dakini for removing obstacle and purifying broken vows.

At the end of his program at the Kunsangar North Dudjom Yangsi Rinpoche will give lung of two Dzogchen (Great Perfection) texts of Longchenpa. The first text is the “Treasury of Dharmadhatu”, which consists of 13 chapters explaining the Ground, Path, and Fruition of the Dzogchen path and the second one is the “Treasury of the Supreme Vehicle”, which consists of 25 chapters that cover various aspects of Buddhist up to the fruition stage of the Dzogchen. During the last day, there will be a feast offering of dakini Troma Nagmo–the innermost secret aspect of the dakini practice in the Dudjom Tersar lineage.

The program in Kalmykia (27 August–1 September) has been organized by the centralized religious organization, the Association of Traditional Buddhist Communities, and the three khuruls (Kalmyk monasteries) of the Nyingma tradition in Kalmykia: the Mindrolling Sangha and the Buddhist communities of the villages Troitskoye and Iki-Burul.

Dudjom Yangsi Rinpoche was recognized as an incarnation of Dudjom Rinpoche by numerous eminent Tibetan lamas, including his root teacher Chadral Rinpoche. In 1994, an enthronement ceremony was held in Nepal by Chadral Rinpoche, attended by many students of Dudjom Rinpoche, including Penor Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, and Katok Situ.
