Kyabje Tsikey Chokling Mingyur Dewey Dorje was born Lungtok Gyatso in 1953, the second eldest son of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. He was recognized at Tsurphu Monastery by His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa as the fourth reincarnation of the 19th century treasure revealer Terchen Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa and is a holder of his Chokling Tersar lineage of teachings.

Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche received the transmission of the entire Nyingma lineage from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Dudjom Rinpoche. From his father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, he received the transmission for the lineage of Chokling Tersar, the termas revealed by his predecessor the first Chokgyur Lingpa. Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche also studied Buddhist philosophy under Thrangu Rinpoche and received training in tantric rituals from Tenga Rinpoche.

Along with his older brother, Tulku Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche was educated at Rumtek Monastery, the seat of the Karmapa, in the northern Indian state of Sikkim. In 1974, the two brothers joined their father in Kathmandu, Nepal. Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche held the position of Vajra Master at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling, presiding over all Vajrayana rituals for the monastic and lay congregations, bestowing initiations, and offering Dharma teachings.

Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche’s eldest son was recognized by His Holiness Dalai Lama as the reincarnation of the Sixth Phakchok Rinpoche of the Taklung Kagyü lineage, while his youngest son was recognized by Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche as the reincarnation of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.
