The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Supports Five-year Lecture Series on Chinese Buddhism at SOAS
SOAS University of London has been awarded a donation by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation to launch a new five-year lecture series on Chinese Buddhism starting in 2017–18.
The lecture series, titled “The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Lecture Series on Chinese Buddhism,” will be dedicated to Chinese Buddhism and hosted by SOAS’s Centre of Buddhist Studies.
Dr. Vincent Tournier, chair of the Centre of Buddhist Studies and a The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Collaborative Research Fellow in Buddhist Studies, said. “The lecture series will engage with research from a variety of disciplines, from history and philosophy to anthropology and art history. We trust that this series will contribute to a broader and deeper understanding of Chinese Buddhist traditions, in a non-sectarian perspective.
“Many links exist between scholars and students of Buddhism at SOAS and at The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation. Our commitments and visions for the field of Buddhist Studies converge, and we are delighted that this has led to the development of a named lecture series at SOAS.”
This interdisciplinary series is designed to allow a wide audience to approach Chinese Buddhism in its richness and complexity. At the same time, it aims at providing a platform for advanced postgraduate training. To that end, each event will consist of two parts: a formal lecture engaging with the broader public and a seminar opened to postgraduate students and researchers. The lectures will launch in October 2017 and will feature three events per year.
