Chavi (f.) [*(s)qeu to cover. Vedic chavi, skuṇāti; cp. Gr. sku_lon; Lat. ob -- scurus; Ohg. skūra (Nhg. scheuer); Ags scēo>E. sky also Goth. skōhs>E. shoe] the (outer, thin) skin, tegument S ii.256; A iv.129; Sn 194; J ii.92.
