The Nirvāṇa Sūtra states four kinds of demons:

Affliction (煩惱魔 ) due to greed, anger and delusion
Five Skandha-s ( 五陰魔 ), i.e. obstructions caused by physical and mental functions
Death ( 死魔 ) which can terminate our lives
Heavenly (天魔 ), demons in the Sixth Heaven (Realm of Desire) can spoil our cultivation of Way
