Mahāmuni Temple
‘Temple of the Great Sage’ in the Burmese region of Arakan where the Candasāra Buddha image was preserved until 1784. Until then the temple was one of the most sacred in south-east Asia. The religious history of Arakan centres around this temple and the Candasāra Buddha image.
