paṃsukūlikā (Pāli, rag wearers). An ascetic sect of uncertain origin that flourished for a time in medieval Sri Lanka before disappearing in the 12th century. The name derives from the practice of wearing only robes (cīvara) that have been cast off as rags, and it is likely this was the distinguishing practice of the group.
