Samyé Ling

A Tibetan Buddhist centre, located in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, affiliated to the Kagyü lineage and founded in the late 1960s by Ānanda Bodhi and then given to Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. After Chogyam Trungpa left the UK, Akong Rinpoche took over as abbot and director of the centre and under his guidance a Tibetan-style monastery building (gompa) was contructed. The centre provides accommodation for retreats and teaching as well as fostering traditional Tibetan crafts. More recently, Holy Island (Strathclyde) was purchased to provide a suitable environment for long-term retreats and inter-faith communion.
