謂眼、耳、鼻、舌、身、意、涅槃等七種之食。即眼以眠為食,耳以聲為食,鼻以香為食,舌以味為食,身以細滑為食,意以法為食,涅槃以不放逸為食。以彼等能增益身心,長養發達,故稱為食。〔增一阿含經卷三十一〕
