The three laksa; a laksa is a mark, sign, token, aim, object; it is also 100,000, i.e. an 億. The three laksa of the esoteric sects are the 字 or magic word, the 印 symbol and the 本尊 object worshipped. Other such threes are body, mouth, and mind; morning, noon, and evening; cold, heat, and rain, etc.
指三億,乃密教陀羅尼念誦成就之限數。落叉,原為印度之數名,十萬曰落叉,以十萬為一億,則三落叉譯作三億。或指晨、午、昏三時及寒、熱、雨三季,此皆為淺略之釋。若依深祕之釋,則落叉為相、見之義,三落叉者,為行者觀字、印、本尊三平等實相之義,而達圓融無礙一體之境。又為身、口、意三業各現暖(息災)、煙(降伏)、光(增益)三瑞相之義。〔大日經疏卷十七、卷二十、大日經義釋演密鈔卷十〕
(雜語)Laksa,密教說念誦陀羅尼之數,謂之三落叉。落叉原為數名,十萬曰落義。以十萬為一億,則三落叉譯作三億,是乃一往淺略之釋也。若依其深秘之釋,則落叉為相之義,見之義,三落叉者見字與印及本尊三平等實相之叉也。又於身口意三業各見瑞相之義也。又時分之義,晨午昏三時或寒熱雨三分,謂之三落叉。大日經疏十七曰:「落叉者,若淺略說是十萬遍。今此不爾,落叉是見也。若見實之時此真言行即得終竟,不然無有中息之義,非如世持誦者劑爾所。(中略)亦是成就義也。行者心住三昧得見本尊,寂止正定,假使妙高山王崩壞震動尚不能間動其心。(中略)又落叉是垛義,如射中齊也。如首楞嚴文殊經習射義,若住諦理任運相應,是落叉義也。」大日經疏二十曰:「三落叉是數,數是世間也。出世間,落叉是見三相,謂字印本尊。」又「落叉梵音,是相義,亦是見義也。」演密鈔十曰:「又落叉是時分,即晨午昏等時。寒熱雨等分名三落叉。又落叉是現相,即煖煙光三種相現也。又落叉是增益等,謂煖相現即作息災,煙相現即作降伏,光相現即作增益。」
