又作獅子，為獸中之王，經中常以之譬喻佛的勇猛。

師子 [py] shīzǐ [wg] shih-tzu [ko] 사자 saja [ja] シシ shishi ||| A synonym of 獅子, meaning "lion." In Buddhism, this term is an epithet of the Buddha, as it refers to his being the greatest among human beings, as the lion is the king of beasts (siṃha). This term is used ubiquitously in such texts as the Śrīmālā-sūtra and and the Nirvana Sutra.

(一)梵語 sijha，巴利語 sīha。又作獅子。獅子為百獸之王，故諸經論中每以獅子比喻佛之無畏與偉大。又如佛之座席稱為師子座、獅子座，佛之說法稱師子吼、獅子吼。
